Elon Musk has launched a new artificial intelligence firm.
Musk, who also controls Tesla and SpaceX, announced the establishment of xAI on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, claiming the firm was founded to "understand reality."
According to xAI's website, the company will collaborate closely with Tesla and Twitter, both of which Musk controls.
The firm is regarded separate from X Corp, according to the company's website, but will collaborate closely with Twitter, Tesla, and other companies "to make progress towards (its) mission."

What exactly is xAI? What will it concentrate on?
The website provides little information about the company's ambitions, but it does state that the staff will answer queries on Twitter Spaces on Friday, July 14.
The website also mentions alumni from Tesla, OpenAI, and Microsoft, and lists a 12-person team, claiming that team members have worked on AI projects such as AlphaCode, Inception, GPT-3.5, GPT4, and Minerva.
In a tweet, one of the co-founders, Greg Yang, stated that the business would strive to "develop the 'theory of everything' for large neural networks" in order to advance AI. His tweet also stated that the corporation will become involved in the mathematics of deep learning, which is a subset of AI. According to Yang, AI will also help everyone better understand the mathematical universe.

The unveiling of xAI coincides with Musk's conflicted feelings about the technology. The billionaire has stated that he believes AI will be critical to Tesla's future, but he has also stated that he is concerned that AI could "eliminate" or "constrain" humanity, and he has signed onto a letter calling for an industrywide pause to AI training for several months.
Musk's foray into artificial intelligence was foreshadowed by a Financial Times piece in April, which stated that Musk was considering launching an AI business. According to an Insider story, Musk has reportedly purchased thousands of GPU processors required for large-scale AI. Musk also told Fox News in April that he planned to create "anti-woke" software dubbed "TruthGPT" since the businesses working on artificial intelligence were too "politically correct."
The startup appears to be aiming to compete with existing artificial intelligence companies, such as OpenAI, which Musk helped build but has been increasingly critical of in recent months.

Musk recently referenced artificial intelligence at a major speech at EEI in Austin, where he urged for more regulation and government control and stated that he has spoken with leaders about it.
What does this new firm portend for Tesla?
Despite his views and worries, Musk has staked Tesla on artificial intelligence.
Musk spoke extensively on the subject during the firm's annual shareholder meeting in May, highlighting Tesla's yet-to-be-released product Optimus, which the company has said will be a humanoid robot powered by artificial intelligence software. Musk sees the robot as crucial to Tesla's future. Optimus is based on the same software as Tesla's contentious "Full Self Driving" vehicle software, a technology that both industry experts and the business do not consider totally autonomous.
The business initially showcased the robot last year during its 2022 AI day, when it displayed a robot that could barely walk. An updated video released in May shows the robot picking up items, recognizing objects, walking, and practicing human motions.
