Biden unveiled a $42 billion broadband internet strategy.

US President Joe Biden has vowed to invest $42 billion over the next seven years to bring high-speed broadband to every US household.

Biden stated Monday at the White House that his administration is making a "historic investment to connect everyone in America to affordable high-speed internet by 2030."

The funding was made possible through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, which was established as part of the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which went into effect two years ago.

On Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris remarked, "Let us agree in the twenty-first century America, high-speed internet is not a luxury, it's a necessity."

Each state will receive at least $107 million to pay the project, with 19 receiving more than $1 billion. Texas will receive $3.3 billion in funding, followed by California ($1.9 billion), Missouri ($1.7 billion), and Michigan ($1.6 billion).

According to CNBC, more than 7% of the United States — or more than 8.5 million homes and small businesses — lack high-speed internet connectivity, which the government defines as less than 25 megabits per second (Mbps) for downloads and 3 Mbps for uploads.

As an example of the scope of the ambitious plan, White House officials compared the broadband initiative to Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1930s campaign to provide electricity to rural America

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo commented on the rollout, saying, "Whether it's connecting people to the digital economy, manufacturing fiber optic cable in America, or creatia href="https://rdphostings.com/rdp/aff.php?aff=2558">

ng good-paying jobs building internet infrastructure in states, the investments we're announcing will increase our competitiveness and spur economic growth across the country for years to come."

The White House touted the program as "the largest investment in high-speed internet ever" in a tweet on Monday. It's now a matter of waiting to see if it delivers.
