This year will see a burst of new book-based entertainment, the most recent of which will be Red, White, and Royal Blue, a film based on Casey McQuiston's novel. The romantic comedy, which stars an ensemble cast, is directed by Matthew Lopez, who won a Tony Award for his 2018 play The Inheritance.

In a word, the plot revolves around the son of a US president who disputes with the Prince of Wales. Of course, there's a lovely, romantic twist.

When will the film 'Red, White & Royal Blue' be released?

The film Red, White, and Royal Blue will be released on August 11, 2023, just in time for a heartwarming and beautiful end-of-summer viewing experience.

Where can I watch 'Red, White & Royal Blue'?

Red, White, and Royal Blue will be available only on Amazon Prime Video, so you'll need an Amazon Prime membership to see it (or you may rent or buy it from Amazon without an Amazon Prime membership).

(Red, White, and Royal Blue follows Alex Claremont-Diaz, the eldest son of the incumbent and first female President of the United States. He meets the British Prince Henry, whom he despises, while attending a royal wedding. The two end up fighting, causing a stir and bringing undesirable negative press to both families. To keep up appearances for both the president and the high-profile royals, the two young men are compelled to pretend to be friendly with one another.

As is typical of most romantic comedies, the two get closer to one another, and their friendship finally turns romantic. While Alex's mother is supportive of her son, homosexuality is frowned upon in the royal family. So Henry battles with admitting his sexuality, particularly to his grandfather the King (in the book, Henry struggles with revealing his secret to the Queen). Even if Henry agrees to disclose the truth, it won't be as simple as each of them thinks. The public backlash might be disastrous. It may, however, surprise them.

Is 'Red, White, & Royal Blue' a hot read?

Red, White, and Royal Blue has gotten favorable reviews, with critics praising the depiction of a gay love. The plot is more about strong love than sizzling physical connection, and critics describe it as "earnest and sweet." Having said that, there are several sex scenes in the book, and some of them are rather graphically depicted. Other sex scenes, on the other hand, aren't detailed in as much sexual detail as you could find in a typical romance novel. Instead, they are pleasant and meaningful, leaving the reader to use their own imagination.

Red, White, and Royal Blue is generally regarded as hilarious, intellectual, romantic, and full of witty conversation, in addition to being somewhat spicy. Nonetheless, due to the profanity and explicit sex scenes, both the book and the film (both classified R) are advised for ages 15 and up.
